In today's episode of the Center for Baptist Leadership podcast, William Wolfe sits down with John Whitehead, an Attorney and ERLC Trustee to discuss the ongoing issues at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). Whitehead criticizes the lack of change since Russell Moore's departure, highlighting the commission's poor management, understaffing, and controversial actions, such as signing a letter opposing an abortion abolition bill and advocating for increased military aid to Ukraine. Whitehead also raises concerns about the ERLC's ties to the Evangelical Immigration Table, which is influenced by George Soros funding, as well as the lack of transparency and accountability within the organization.

Pastor Lewis came to Woodlawn in May 2012. He previously served at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in various capacities from 2005-2012 where he also received his Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages (M.Div.) and Doctorate of Philosophy in Preaching (Ph.D.) degrees. Lewis began his pastoral ministry in 1999, while a senior in high school, as an interim pastor in rural Rapides Parish, Louisiana. That experience, along with his other ministry experiences (he served churches in Louisiana and Texas) have given him a passion for people and the Word of God. In addition to leading in the local church, Pastor Lewis has been instrumental in launching a ministry in India that includes an accredited Bible college and seminary, church planting efforts all over India, an orphan ministry, and pastor training.

Congressman, Pastor, Baptist: Mark Harris on Fighting for the SBC and Serving in the Political Arena

Dr. Harris accepted the call to come to Trinity Baptist Church in February of 2020. He earned his undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University in 1987. Upon answering God’s call to ministry that same year, Dr. Harris enrolled at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, where he would earn both his Master of Divinity degree and his Doctor of Ministry degree in Christian Leadership. Dr. Harris has served as Senior Pastor of three other Southern Baptist churches over the last 30 years

Willy has pastored churches in the south eastern United States for more than 35 years, and he has a passion for teaching the Word of God in an engaging and understandable way. Willy was called, licensed and ordained to preach at Calvary under the leadership of Dr. Bill Anderson, who pastored Calvary Church for 27 years. Willy Rice returned to Calvary in 2004 to lead the church he considered his home. Dr. Willy Rice is a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a B.A. degree (1985) and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree (1990) and a Doctor of Ministry degree (1996). Willy and Cheryl have three children, Amanda, Anna, and Stephen, and six beautiful grandchildren.

Rhett began serving FBC Travelers Rest as senior pastor in July 2022. Prior to joining FBCTR, Rhett served as an associate pastor at a nearby church, and before that he and his family lived in Turkey, where he worked as a football coach, teacher, and freelance writer. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is the author of two books: Run Like a Stallion: How American Football Explains Turkey and The New People Next Door: Learning to Love Your Cross-Cultural Neighbors.
